Peter Tiv (b. Pedram Tiv) is an Iranian-Canadian musician whose work reflects a synthesis of classical, electronic, and rock influences.
Born in Iran and raised in a family where the arts were a natural part of daily life, Peter began studying piano at the age of seven. His formative years were shaped by an environment that valued music, visual art, and architecture, providing a strong foundation for his creative development.
At sixteen, following his family’s immigration to Canada, Peter began pursuing music with greater focus and intention. Having grown up listening to bands such as The Cranberries, Metallica, and Guns N’ Roses, attending a Metallica concert in Vancouver proved especially influential. Around this time, he took up the guitar and began writing original material. Another major event in his musical development during his teen years was discovering the music of Pink Floyd, which opened new dimensions in both guitar playing and lyric writing.
Though he pursued academic studies in Computer Science, Peter continued his classical piano training, gradually developing a compositional voice rooted in both the classical tradition and rock. His musical language is at once disciplined and emotionally direct—shaped by his deep appreciation for the works of J.S. Bach and Beethoven, as well as his admiration for the guitar styles of David Gilmour and Jeff Beck. The electronic music of Vangelis has also inspired him to explore distinctive sonic textures in his work.
Peter currently resides in Milton, Ontario, with his wife and three children. For him, music remains one of the most genuine and enduring forms of expression.
